Hello,
Our 1st graders recently dove into an exciting project: creating a textured paper quilt! This activity introduced students to basic art tools like rulers, colored pencils, crayons, markers, and scissors, while emphasizing creativity, precision, and texture.
To start, each student used a ruler to make a grid on drawing paper, setting the foundation for a series of small, unique “quilt squares.” In each section, they designed patterns or mini-pictures, making each square special. After the artwork was complete, they used scissors to add a fun fringe to the quilt’s edges.
The most thrilling part? The crumple effect! They crumpled, uncrumpled, and crumpled their paper again to create a soft, textured finish. This process gave their quilts a unique, fabric-like quality that’s so cool to touch.
Ask your artist to tell you about their quilt—each one is a wonderful combination of personal design, vibrant color, and playful texture!
Best Regards,
