Second graders have been studying the solar system this trimester in Spanish. They have learned the Spanish words for all of the planets, the sun, the moon, and the stars. They’ve worked very hard to complete a vocabulary booklet to keep track of everything they’ve learned. To prepare for the end of our trimester, students have started working on a group or partner project. Each pair or group has been researching their planet and finding out different facts about it, such as its order in the solar system, how many hours are in one day, and how many days on earth is equal to one year on that planet.
This week, students were in charge of their own paper to keep track of their planet’s information. After gathering the information in English, we worked together to translate that information into Spanish. Next week we will begin to put our information onto posters that will have that information written in Spanish.
This is such a fun project to do with the students and I’ve enjoyed seeing them figure out new vocabulary as they learn facts about the planet they are studying. I am excited to see what their posters look like when they are completed!
