Week of 10/15 – 10/18

Welcome back from fall break!  Here’s the plan for the week:

Reading: We will start working on a new read aloud this week: Fatty Legs.  It is a story of a Native American girl who attends a boarding school in the far north.  She uses her love of the story Alice in Wonderland to help her endure the hardships of the experience.  While reading the novel, we will compare the main characters of the two novels.  We will also discuss the themes of culture and family.

Spelling/Grammar: Students will continue working on the spelling list they began last week. There will be a spelling check on Friday.

Science: We are focused on weathering and erosion this week.  After learning about it, we will go looking for evidence of it on our field trip!

Social Studies: Research continues.  Students will be wrapping it up and moving on to the next stage: organizing it into a presentation.

Math: We are adding and subtracting fractions.  Towards the end of the week, we will be working with mixed numbers as well.
