It’s an exciting week here at the Summit as we gear up for winter break! Friday is an early release at 11 am and classes will be hosting their winter parties that morning. Here are our last activities of 2024:
Writing: Revising, editing, and publishing those expository essays.
Reading: Students are hitting half way through their reading group books this week! Students will be doing a reflective check-in, where they will be doing a self-assessment of the skills they have been working on during reading activities for the past few months.
Spelling/Grammar: none this week!
Science: We’re learning about static electricity this week. We’re breaking out the balloons!
Social Studies: Students are learning about Africa and Asia in the 1400s.
Math: We’re finishing up fractions this week with an assessment on dividing fractions on Thursday.
Also of note: students who have read Hello, Universe and Wonder will be able to vote for their favorite on Friday! This is part of our optional “Fifth Grade Fiction Final Four” activity for the year. During Winter Break, students are encouraged to begin working on our next two optional books: Tale of Despereaux and Girl Who Drank the Moon. We will vote on those two books in March. Then, the winners of those brackets will be put head to head in a final vote to determine this year’s winning book!
