Happy February! It’s a busy week at The Summit. Day of Play is on Wednesday, 100th Day of School will be celebrated on Thursday, and there will be a free KC Chiefs and Summit Spirit Wear day on Friday! Here’s what we’ll be doing in the classroom:
Writing: Students are focusing on imagery in their poetry this week. We discussed simile and metaphor. We will also look at some poems that use onomatopoeia. Towards the end of the week, we will read some poems by Maya Angelou and Langston Hughes to honor Black History Month.
Reading: We will discuss the themes that our reading group novels had in common and write a literary essay together about a common theme. Later in the week, we will begin our new novel studies with a whole new set of books!
Spelling/Grammar: It’s a grammar week – we are drilling down on proper capitalization and comma usage. Grammar test on Friday.
Science: Students will be finalizing their research and making their quiz questions for their final project on electricity. Afterwards, we will be making some circuits.
Social Studies: We will be finishing up the presentation projects this week so that as we roll through the history of the Age of Exploration, students will be able to share what they have learned as their explorer enters the picture.
Math: We will begin the week by reviewing material from our last unit on area of rectangles, triangles, and compound shapes. Then, we will move to finding volume of 3-dimentional shapes.
