Early Learners had an exciting week learning all about Día de los Muertos, a holiday that celebrates and honors loved ones who have passed away. This holiday originated in Mexico and has since spread to other countries, too. Early Learners spent the week making different crafts that relate to this special holiday. We made papel picado (hanging paper decorations), mariposas (butterflies),cempasúchil (marigold flowers), and their most favorite: sugar skulls!
Each of these crafts has a significance for the ofrenda, where all week, pictures of departed loved ones have been on display at the front desk at school. Each of these special decorations is meant to honor and help us remember those people (and pets!) that we love so much.
Early Learners did a great job working on gluing, cutting, coloring, and decorating all of these different crafts. They were able to practice these important skills, but also were able to practice patience, perseverance, and creativity while participating in all of these fun activities.
This is such a fun week of our school year and I am glad to get to share this time with all of our Early Learners classes. They are doing an excellent job at school and already growing so much!
