Mr. Powers’ Blog Update

Chemistry

This week in Chemistry, our students have been diving into the fascinating world of atomic structure and the periodic table. We’ve been exploring how the periodic table is organized and what the various pieces of information tell us about elements. Our journey began with a look at pivotal experiments that shaped our current understanding of the atom. Students learned about J.J. Thomson’s groundbreaking work with cathode rays, which led to the discovery of the electron and the development of the plum pudding model. We then moved on to Ernest Rutherford’s famous gold foil experiment, which revealed the atom’s dense, positive nucleus and introduced the solar system model. The week concluded with an exploration of Niels Bohr’s model, highlighting the concept of quantum jumps in electron energy levels. Students also began applying their knowledge with practical calculations involving Avogadro’s number and moles, integrating theoretical concepts with hands-on problem-solving.

3D Design

In 3D Design, students are making impressive strides with their projects. Our more advanced students are diving into independent projects, showcasing their creativity and technical skills as they push the boundaries of their 3D design abilities. Meanwhile, our new students have started their journey with an introductory project designed to teach the fundamentals of modeling, rigging, texturing, and animation. This project serves as a foundation for their future work, helping them build essential skills and gain confidence in their design capabilities.

Music Production

In Music Production, the focus is on personal creativity and collaboration. Each student is currently working on producing their own original song. They are taking on the role of producer, which involves not only crafting their music but also collaborating with peers to incorporate live instruments and additional elements into their tracks. Students are learning to balance their artistic vision with practical organization skills to ensure their projects are well-coordinated and meet their creative goals. This hands-on experience is helping them develop both their musical talent and their ability to manage complex projects.
