Algebra 1 – Students had their first exam this week. They first completed a practice exam to identify concepts they needed to focus on. Overall the scores were good reflecting their dedication and hard work. We will be quickly moving to functions and graphing over the next couple of weeks. We are also studying some Pre-Algebra concepts that will help them to review and fill in any skills gaps they may have.
Geometry – Students had their first exam last week. They first completed a practice exam to identify concepts they needed to focus on. Overall the scores were good and students exceeded expectations for their performance on the exam. Over the next few weeks we will be classifying angles, triangles and polygons. We are also studying some Algebra concepts that will help them to review and fill in any skills gaps they may have.
Data Science – Students had their first exam last week following a practice exam. Students scored well demonstrating their knowledge of data acquisition, sampling, and the normal distribution. For the next few weeks we will be looking in detail at types of samples used in acquiring statistical information. Students will also look at the concept of bias in sampling data.
Computer Science – We are making great progress in learning the basics of the Java programming language. We have discussed the three basic concepts of object-oriented programming – encapsulation, inheritance, and polymorphism. We have also mastered the Java data types as well as number systems in programming (decimal, binary, octal, and hexadecimal). Over the next few weeks we will be creating classes and objects.
