Updates from Raven’s Art Studio

Middle schoolers have started their first creative journeys of the year, each diving into a drawing project.

6th and 7th Grade: The World of Contour Lines – In 6th and 7th grade, students are mastering the art of contour lines. Contour lines are the outlining edges of objects that give them form. Starting with blind contour drawings, students also explored continuous line contour drawings and modified contour drawings. They will use these methods to create a continuous line string portrait.

8th Grade: Art and Life’s Values – Our 8th graders are exploring ‘value’ in art and life. They’ve connected the concept of light and dark in art to what they personally value. By drawing objects and places of personal significance, they are creating depth and meaning in their artwork both literally and figuratively.

Plein Air Elective: Sketching in the Open Air – In our Plein Air elective, students embrace open-air sketching. They’ve learned to use thumbnails and viewfinders for composition, capturing the essence of scenes in nature.
